Who wouldn't want free energy? With the amount of electrical gizmos I have running at my home, I could do with my own supply of electricity that is not connected to a money meter.
There are a lot of free energy stuff running about on the internet and this just one of many interesting ones that I stumbled across. It's called the Wimhurst Electrostatic Machine.
It's based on a concept similar to the way we charge ourselves up before getting a rather nasty surprise when touching something metallic - hurts doesn't it? It's called static electricity.
I'm no expert but I think this is how the Wimhurst Machine works: There are two disks rotating opposite each other - one clockwise, the other counter clockwise. There are foil sections on the disks (one aluminium and one copper, I think). The disks rotate at a few thousand RPMs to generate static electricity between them. A pulley system spins the disks.
Then there are pickups (usually brushes, like in the electric motor) that collect this electricity and stores them in a capacitor. The energy storing capacitors are called Leyden jars and are made from metal, plastic and glass.
You get to the stored electricity via contacts that exit the two Lynden jars - positive and negative - just like conventional power points. There is probably a voltage regulator in there somewhere.

The most famous Wimhurst machine has to be the Testatika which is running somewhere in Switzerland. It is said to have perpetual motion - the disks spinning contiuously without intervention - and is powering a small religious community.
Free clean energy... I gotta have one!
It's really a nice find but I wonder how much electricity could one expect to get from these. I'd definitely love to get one :P
ReplyDeleteAnybody whos taken a Thermodynamics course knows that this is just a scam. There is no such thing as a free-energy machine, or a perpetual-motion machine. It is impossible by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. If such a thing were actually true, these guys would have won the Nobel Prize for Physics.
ReplyDeleteAsk yourselves? What energy source is spinning the disks? It says a pulley system, which means mechanical, which means it has to be driven by something. A motor? What powers the motor? The static generated in the capacitors? Its just not possible. You can't get more energy out of a system than what you put in.
This is a hoax.
umm. That is complete bull.To create static electricity you have to apply the energy to seperate it from the molecules. As for perpeptual motion machines they are a complete fiction, It is a law of physics. I think its the third law of thermodynamics. Also in the stated setup you would have 2 opposite spinning plates opposidly charged. They would attract each other and slow down through electromagnetic force.
ReplyDeleteIt's Leyden Jar, not Lynden Jar... Discovered in 1745 by the Dutch physicist Pieter van Musschenbroek. It's called after the place of it's dicovery, Leyden (Leiden), the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed it, being Dutch..
We've gone over these machines before in physics. This is most definately a scam. Wimhurst machines are real, we have one in our classroom right now, but they are powered by a crank, and they produce a small lightening bolt between the two metel spheres you see in the picture. You couldn't power your house with one.
ReplyDeleteBit bizaa that at most an engine can only be 40% efficient. Ah physics a subject in Britain that they cant find people to teach anymore.
ReplyDeletewhat's the third law of thermodynamics. You have to explain it to me, i think what u third law is the same second law. law 0, law 1 and law 2.
ReplyDeleteThats a tessla coil your talking about..LOLOL
ReplyDeleteperpetual motion does not exsist. you might get a rechard rate pretty close to amount of energy expensed, but never equal or more. physics prove that...
ReplyDeleteThis is totally crap, indeed, if this was possible, then they would win the nobel price of physics.
ReplyDeleteEven a battery is more efficient then that thing. And with what energy source you have let those spinning disks turnin? That cost also a lot of money, conclusion: This product is developed to destruct
To all of you and especiallt Christopher Goff. The law of physics or what nots are not written in stone. Indeed it has been proven worng factually.
ReplyDeletePlease visit this site(http://www.cheniere.org) and go through some of the links to find out that a patent has been made and a prototype as well that has no inputs, no moving parts but outputs electrical current. It is done using the Zero point energy in a vaccum.
Yes it has been patented in the US and yes there is a working prototype for the last 2 years. All that is needed is money to commercialise it.
It is true you can have "free" electricity...
Yah, Tom Bearden also thinks there's a huge weather machine in Russia controlled by the Yakuza.
ReplyDeleteThe theories are warm and fuzzy, but he won't let any real scientists test his MEG machine.
I can patent monkeys flying from my butt, but it doesn't mean it's gonna happen.
Just my $.02
Free-Energy is not a hoax as some ignorant people would tend to label it as. If you think about it logically...the global economy is greatly based on huge corporations and even countries battling for the last tidbits of natural resources left. And by last tidbits...Im talking about the gunk they haven't even discovered yet.
ReplyDeleteCold-Fusion has been around since the 1970's.....at first it was dismissed, but if you search for it you will readily find a number of people that have duplicated the experiment and obtained some rather interesting results. The experiment im reffering to is the process by which a paladium anode and a "another-element" cathode, are inserted into heavy water...producing what can only be described as fusion at room temperature.
So in conclusion...Greed is stopping this world from being a healthier...safer...less poverty ridden global society. Blame the US, Isreal, Arabs, and I guess China too. Although im not quite sure why I would blame China....other than they are mysterious as the evil scientist across the street....Good day.
To the above post, you are a total utter uniformed nutter, you have no idea what you are talking about, go back to college and learn some physics!
ReplyDelete... And take off that damned uniform!
ReplyDeleteThis type of generator should not be completley discounted. The fact that it would power itself is obviously impossible, but as stated earlier these can be powered by crank. Similar to a crank it could be powered by a machine like an excercise bike, or other moving excercise machines.
ReplyDeleteThough the energy output would be extremly low just like with other crank ones, if marketed well it could be a tool to inspire fat people to excercise with the thought of free power. In reality it would be using much of their bodies energy, but many people wouldn't think of it like that possibly causing a decrease of obesity in America.
You can cheat on yourself but not nature or physics.
ReplyDeleteThe generator is a scam.
The text says it uses inductivity, in other words you put in energy and then let it ozcilate forth and back. Of course energy is lost to resisters until all is gone.
ZPE comes close to free but is not.
The conditions for it are extreme and not realizeable. The cassimir effect is known for a very long time and there are hundreds of small companies trying to build something since ever. Isn't it strange no one came up with a product?
And yall haven't even touched on the secret GM carburator that would give cars 100+mpg on regular gas.
ReplyDeleteI was nice before but now this is getting retarded. This machine isn't perpetual motion(as I said, it has a hand crank, try typing while you turn that constantly), and it isn't used to power anything(it couldnt even produce enough power to do any serious damage if you touched it). I know what I'm talking about, we literally wrapped up the physics unit on static electricity last week. This machine is used to demostrate static electricity. Let me put it this way, Wimhurst machines are like bottle rockets, pretty, and they demonstate rocketry well enough, but your not going to the moon with them, for that you need something a bit more complicated, and perpetual motion machines have yet to be invented, they remain a holy grail for physicists to try for. Take a look at dictionary.com's definition (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=Wimshurst%20machine)
ReplyDeletesee, it says nothing at all about it being used to power any machines. Search google, search wikipedia, search anything you want. If anyone can find a reputible source that says they can produce a Wimhurst Machine that can run perpetual motion and power my house for free (mind you I have a pretty awesome computer, so all the lights and telephones and TV's aside, it needs 500 watts for that) I will personally send you all a video of me eating my work shoes. I work at a barn. They're covered in horse defication. I'm not joking. This is a fake, someones sitting by right now laughing their ass off at all of you defending this crackpot article. If you havent taken physics or didnt listen when you did, dont think you can make intelligent replies. Also, no real perpetual motion machine would use anything this primitive. Leyden jars were a precursor to the modern capacitor, not a modern capacitor themselves. Honestly people, do some research or something.
man's wisedom is foolish
ReplyDeleteall things are possible to them who have faith in God and his power
ReplyDeleteEven a fool knows he cannot reach the stars, but it does not stop a wise man from trying!
ReplyDeletefree energy eh.. ill give you some free energy...
ReplyDelete*farts*
..there we go. Power your house with that
static electricity is not created it is ambient and it is collected like water from a well. In principle the effort necessary to collect it is much less than the energy collected. Static electricity is trasmitted to the collector by colloidal agglomerations that are in the air forming linear fractal constructs samaller than 9microns in diameter so they cannot be felt they cannot be seen and they can hardly be percieved even through scientific methods. The colloidal agglomerations are the same transmitters that create ligthnings. Somehow most people and even most scientists ignore these facts because they dont appear to be necessary to edify the rest of the theory on static ambient electricity.
ReplyDeleteI dont no how this thing works properly, but on the axle, could you put a few blades so that it could be wind powered?
ReplyDeleteYou see i got to know this web when searching about "The True Perpetual motion Machines" on MSN Search.
ReplyDeleteChristopher Goff you said that there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machines, why dont you visit this web site: http://ddnpmfng.blogspot.com/. A web blog talking about building a perpetual motion machine that works. Many are believing, Im still contemplating on seeing a working prototype.
