10/28/2005 03:02:00 PM|W|P|izahan|W|P|Wouldn't it be nice to have an astromech droid around the house? Of course, the standard would have to be R2-D2, nothing less. Then you would have a useful gadget on wheels. Let's see what we would get if we had an astromech droid: Mobile Beverage Machine - no more getting up from watching your favourite TV show. Just give a holler and the ol' astromech will be at your service. Personal Smoky The Bear - as in fire safety. A fire extinguisher is good to have but you still need to be aware of a fire. With an astromech droid, you have your very own mini fire brigade. Pest Control - keeps your pad rodent free with that handy electro-zapping arm. All Your Locks Are Belong To Us - I'll bet that the astromech can hack into just about any computer system available. Of yourse, you won't ask it to do any illegal stuff... right? Up Periscope - the unfair advantage in a game of paint ball. And of course, each astromech is customizable so there are endless possibilities! Post some if you think of something! If one is ever made available (at a reasonable price, of course), then I gotta have one!|W|P|113050659334946540|W|P|Astromech Droid|W|P|izahan@gmail.com1/18/2006 03:48:00 PM|W|P|Anonymous Anonymous|W|P|Look out for your over friendly and happy go lucky do anything for you droid! The VisionStation offers a fully immersive display of 160°. Just imagine having a go at your favourite console game (Gran Turismo 4 comes to mind) on the VisionStation! Not to mention giving yourself a good fright watching movies like Jurassic Park! On the other hand, the space battles in Star Wars would be awesome to watch (even better if you have a good home theater system as well). The system is claimed to be easy to setup - just plug-in your monitor's VGA output into the VisionStation's VGA input and you are ready to go. The VisionStation runs a 4:3 aspect ratio so I'm guessing that a little tweaking would be needed to enjoy movies in letterbox format. Portability was also a priority in its design. You can pack up the whole unit into two cases that fits quite well in a van. Total weight is around 42kg. Now this would be a cool thing to have for my PS2! It seems that there is a class action lawsuit being filed against Apple with regards to the iPod nano. A Jason Tomczak is filing it claiming that had he known about the defects in the iPod nano, he would not have bought one. The nano's screen is said to easily scratch and crack rendering it unreadable. Mr. Tomczak claims that while Steve Jobs is seen in the advertisement carrying the nano in his pocket, actually carrying the nano in a pocket with it's headphones will render the screen scratched beyond use. Apple has acknowledged that there are defects to the iPod nano screens in "less than one-tenth of one percent" of its stock. Maybe I will wait before I get one... via vnunet.com

Put your feet into the well-shaped and comfortable foot rests and select from several massage options. The greatest feeling for me is when the foot rests inflates and squeezes your foot, ankle & calves all at once. That really brings about great relief to your entire body. Then there is the kneading actions and the pressure massaging rolling about your entire feet. The reflexology massaging of the soles of your feet is also quite brilliant. You can also select to enable the vibration action to accompany the massaging. The fabric covers are removable and washable so no worries about feet hygiene. After testing the demo unit, I would strongly recommend this one. As for me, I gotta have one! Okay, maybe it's a wee bit bigger - but not that much bigger.
Resolution is at 5 megapixels which is impressive for such a tiny thing. The lens is capable of 3x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom. Couple that with Sony's auto-focus & auto exposure magic and you can be sure of high quality pictures. There is a huge 2.5" Hybrid LCD Monitor on the back of the camera. The screen maintains very good viewability even under bright lighting conditions. The big screen size makes it comfortable to show off your photos to friends and family. Real Imaging Processor technology means that the camera comes with excellent response time. It can do a series of 16 consecutive capture (320 x 240 frames as part of a single 1280 x 960 image) which you can play back sequentially on the camera or as a single image on your computer. There are also 10 built-in scene modes so that you don't have to fiddle around with the settings too much when taking pictures. The modes are: Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, High Speed Shutter, Candle, and Magnifying Glass. Video capture is also possible. You can capture VGA (640 x 480 at 30fps) quality videos with audio. Video capture length is only limited by the camer's memory. All in all, a great camera considering it's tiny size. Got sun? Got power. No more worrying about the mobile phone running out of juice. Or other small appliances for that matter. You can lie on the beach all day listening to your favourite MP3s with the sun as your servant - tanning and charging your little gadget. Go for a long trek in the countryside and rest assured that your GPS will always be fully charged and ready for action. Snap your holiday pictures like never before knowing full well that only your digital camera's memory size can hold you back. So, what's the catch? Well, one iSun unit can only power small electronics devices of less than 2 Watts power consumption. If you need to power a device that consumes more that 2 Watts, then you have to connect multiple iSuns together. The plugging accessories will let you run about 90% of small appliances so it is wise to check and see if the iSun will power your gadgets. Power - anytime, anywhere - I gotta have one!

Blu-Ray is developed by the Blu-Ray Disc Association along with a host of manufacturers - Samsung, Dell, Panasonic, Sony, Apple, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Thomson, Sharp, Phillips & TDK.
How will the format blow away the current DVD capacity? Well, a single Blu-Ray disc can hold 25GB of data - that's about 5 times more than the current DVD format! Okay, so a dual-layer DVD can hold about 9GB of data - which is quite big - but a dual-layer Blu-Ray DVD can take up to 50GB! There are also plans to develop multi-layer discs that can store even more data. LESS IS MORE The Blu-Ray technology uses blue-violet laser (hence the name) instead of the standard red laser. The blue-violet laser has a shorter wavelength (405nm - that's nano meters; nine thousandth of a meter) versus the longer wavelength of the red laser (650nm). This shorter wavelength allows for the blue-violet laser to be focused at a greater precision allowing greater data density (more data in the same space). You don't have to worry about chucking away your old DVDs though because the Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible - at the manufacturer's discretion, of course. WHERE CAN I GET ONE? Well, right now you can only get one in Japan. I read that Blu-Rays will be made available in the US early 2006. There will be players, recorders and PC drives. Something to look forward to. I need to seriously reduce my DVD stack so I gotta have one! from Blu-Ray.com

The Archos is a DVR - that's a Digital Video Recorder. It means that not only does it play back recorded shows, it actually records them as well. The AV 700 can record direct from your TV, DVD player, VCR, cable or sastellite box. With 100GB of storage, you can store up to 400hours of video (that's about 250 movies!)! No more fuddling around with discs when a movie ends. Time to retire the old DVD recorder... It can also act as your portable photo album. You can dowload photos off your camera directly via USB 2.0. You can also connect to your PC or Mac to transfer data. And, you get a TV output so that you can watch shows on your big screen TV instead of the 7" screen. There is more - it also plays music. Supported formats are MP3, WAV, WMA and protected WMA. Songs can be organised via the ARCLibrary and you can customize the screen per song played - without connecting to an external computer. The AV 700 also features the Mophun gaming engine and you can download and purchase games from the Archos website. I gotta have one!

Anytime, Anywhere As in availability. Imagine getting a great idea while having breakfast at your favourite coffee shop. Get out your handy little pen, and scribble it down on a piece of paper. Forgot your pen? No worries, a quick dash over to the cashier and she will be happy to lend you one. Try that with a PDA ("I just need to jot something down real quickly - look I even brought my own SD card..." - not gonna happen). Depending on what ink you have, you can write on almost any surface too. Paper (obviously), serviette, your hand, your friend's hand, tablecloth... well, you get the idea. For All Occassions That's right. Other than write, the pen can also act as a fashion accessory. Blue handbag, blue scarf, blue pen. Pinstripe suit, expensive watch and a Mont Blanc in the top pocket. Underwater? No problems. Get one of those pens that divers use. James Bond you say? Get one that not only writes, but burns a hole in the wall with it's high powered laser (just don't chew the top end 007...) In space? No worries. There is a huge option of PDAs available but I think this is one of the better ones. The E2 from palmOne features an excellent 320 x 320 hi-res colour display. Whether indoors or outdoors, the brilliant display ensures that whatever is displayed is clearly seen. It also has the ability to create and edit Word, Excel & Powerpoint compatible files with Dataviz's Documents To Go. This is handy since most consumers have these Microsoft software on their PCs. When you write down your thoughts and ideas on the E2, you can then easily transfer them to your PC. you can also quickly sync emails, contacts and all that from your Outlook. The E2 runs on the Intel 200Mhz XScale processor and comes with a 32MB built-in flash memory to safeguard your data when you run out of battery. You won't run out of power often though as the battery can last up to a week with normal business usage. There is also an expansion slot for SD, SDIO and MMC cards for you to offload your data onto. Wireless communications is via Bluetooth only. Multimedia-wise, the E2 has the capability to play MP3s and video clips. Headphones are not included though. You can also store and view your favourite photos and store ebooks for you to read on the go. I gotta have one.

You plan this excellent family roadtrip to somewhere nice. You are excited, your spouse is excited and your kids are really excited. You get in the car and the journey begins. 30 minutes later... "Are we there yet?" Been there, hated it. Then I came across this little thingy here. Might be just the thing to keep the kids occupied. The widescreen 10.2 inch LCD monitor allows you to enjoy movies in it's original 16:9 aspect ratio. With a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a response time of 18 milliseconds, good picture quality is ensured. Contrast ratio is also very good at 250:1 with a screen brightness of 450 cd/m2. What this means is that if the sun's glare peeks through your car window while you are watching your favourite movie, the visiblity of the screen will not be badly compromised. It also plays a handful of disc formats - DVD movie, CD audio, DVD+R/RW, VCD, SVCD, CD-R/RW, MP3, JPEG (Picture CD), MPEG4, and DivX 3.11/4.x/5.x. The rechargeable battery lasts about 2.5 hours and it takes 3 hours to fully recharge it. The unit comes with a car power adapter so you don't have to worry about running out of juice on long journeys. Kids, you drive! I gotta have one.

The first thing that you will notice about this offering from Motorola is that it is not plastic. The casing is made of anodized aluminium - even the keypad is made of metal! And it's thin - really thin. With these dimensions (H 3.86, W 2.08, D 0.54 inches), it is no wonder that it's called the razor! Let's see what this phone can do... The Cool Stuff
  • Ringtones: MP3 & Polyphonic
  • Picture Phonebook
  • Downloadable themes - wallpaper, ringtones & screen savers
  • Video download & video clip playback (with sound)
  • Integrated digital VGA camera with 4x zoom
  • one to one SMS chat & group SMS
The phone also comes with a built-in speaker phone for hands-free operation. It's 5MB internal memory can store up to 1,000 entries plus a further 250 entries on SIM card. You can also do caller group profiling so all the nifty stuff with different ringtones for different groups of people are possible. The phone can also vibrate at incoming calls and messages. It comes in either black or silver. I gotta have one.

You can adjust the amount of hits you can take, shields and other cool stuff. There is also a feature that tells you when you have locked on to an opponent - useful when you are in a good sniping position. The built in scoring system has potential to provide bragging rights as to who is the best shooter overall! There are 11 pre-programmed games built into the units and you can also add custom games. Not many people are aware of this but tires are VERY important. The four round black things are the things that guide your car on the road. You can have the best engine, the best brakes, the best suspensions or the best electronics monitoring your car - but if your tires don't work, you don't get to go where you want to. That's why choosing a good set of tires is critical. When you do have a good set, you must know what to do with it. The first thing that you must know is how to inflate your tires. Not Too Little, Not Too Much Too much pressure and your tires loses the amount of contact it has with the ground. Some people might like this because it makes the steering feel 'light'. Too much tire pressure wears the tire more in the middle section because that becomes the primary contact surface. The outer treads gets used much less and you lose the maximum potential from your tires - in braking, accelerating and in turning. Too little tire pressure and you risk the chance of stressing the sidewall of your tires too much. This is because the sidewalls become soft. You will get a 'moving sensation' while cornering which is very uncomfortable. Uneven tire pressures can give you vibrations while driving. It can even cause your steering wheel to be skewed while driving in a straight line. Keep An Eye On Those Pressures Keeping an eye on your tire pressures can be a hassle if you have to go to your local gas station everytime you want to check them. That is where this crafty little thing comes in handy. The big back-lit digital readout gives clear readings of your pressures with an accuracy of 0.5PSI. Measuring 5 to 99 PSI is no problems. The device is powered by a lifetime guaranteed lithium battery and shuts itself off when not in use. Now you can keep an eye on those tire pressures hassle free. Convenient little thing... gotta have one.

There is nothing like some good ol' ice cream to cool off a warm day... Okay, so it's nearly winter up here in the northern hemisphere but hey, this is the internet, you could be reading this from down under! To make ice cream, we gotta freeze some ingredients together. Guess what? You don't have to plug this thing in - anywhere! There is a little metal ball inside where you mix in your ingredients (it comes with a recipe book). Then, pack the space in between the metal ball and the blue covering with ice. That's right, you still have to have a source to cool things down. Then roll it around with a couple of friends. After about 30 minutes of rolling fun and games, you pop open the ball and out comes your ice cream! Pretty nifty, eh? I gotta have one. You gotta have one too? Get one at Amazon.com

Check out this little baby from Apple. The iPod nano has to be the coolest MP3 palyer around. It comes in two versions: one with 2GB memory and the other with 4GB. That totals up to about 500 songs for the former version and 1,000 songs for the latter! The number of songs is calculated based on 4 minute songs recorded at 128kbps. Colour choice is either iPod in white or iPod in black. The iPod nano supports the following audio format: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV & AIFF. At a size of 3.5 x 1.6 x 0.27 inches (8.89 x 4.06 x 0.69 cm), you can literally have a thousand songs in your pocket. The nano weighs in at only 1.5 ounces (about 42 grams). In fact, with those dimensions, I'll bet that the iPod nano fits quite snugly into the coin pocket of your favourite pair of jeans! With a bright 1.5" colour LCD display (176 x 132 pixel resolution with .168mm dot pitch), the iPod nano can also display pictures. You can put up album art of the songs playing. You can also carry around your favourite photos. If you transfer photos from iTunes, then you can carry about 25,000 photos in the iPod nano (at 4GB capacity). Supported photo format are: JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PSD (Mac only) and PNG. Battery life is around about 14 hours and it charges via USB. USB interface is done via a dock connector. THe headphones are plugged into a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. The iPod nano is compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows 2000/XP. I just gotta have one.

The pointer has two functions: one that keeps the laser on while you push the button and the other keeps the laser on until you switch it off. The unit runs on one 3V type 123A lithium battery which will give you about 6 - 9 hours of power. The continuous wave laser has a wavelength of 532nm and a range of about 20 miles (which is about 32 km)! Now this is a cool toy to have in my pocket. This latest offering from Sony is a 5.1 megapixel digital camera. It carries a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom. The lens is a 35mm equivalent range of 38-114mm with a maximum aperture of f/3.5 at its widest down to f/4.4 at telephoto range. The M2 is capable of shooting up 50 minutes of video in MPEG-4 format with 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second. Sound is captured via built-in steroe microphones. Full resolution stills and videos are stored on the Memory Stick PRO DUO. The M2 also comes with a built-in 57MB of memory to store VGA versions of still captures. This allows storage of up to 1,100 photos. With the M2's Pocket Album feature, you literally have a huge photo album with you anywhere you go. These photos can be shown off in the 2.5" Hybrid LCD screen. Once the maximum limit of storage is reached, the oldest photo will make way for newer ones. You can protect photos from deletion so that you always have your favourite photos on hand. There is also a 6MB memory dedicated for music. You can upload your favourite music that will play with the Slide Show feature included with the M2. A choose of several slide show transitions is available one of which is a nifty 5 second video capture mode that captures 5 second clips along with normal still images. And it looks really cool... I gotta have one!
